Berlin exige la démolition du Parthénon. Le coût de l'entretien du site serait trop élevé et menacerait l'équilibre des finances publiques grecques. Non entretenu, le temple menacerait de s'effondrer et pourrait blesser des touristes visitant le site. Le consulat allemand à Athènes rappelle que des milliers de touristes allemands visitent le site chaque année.


Seule capitale en Europe à protester, Rome a condamné les déclarations du gouvernement allemand. Paris se tait, à l'instar des autres capitales européennes.


Le gouvernement allemand a répondu qu'il était prêt à envisager la déconstruction du Parthénon et son transfert puis remontage dans un musée allemand. Le monument, chef d'œuvre de l'humanité, serait ainsi mieux préservé que s'il restait sur le sol grec.


Quand donc le peuple grec va t-il se lever et dire NON ?
Quand donc l'arrogance allemande va t-elle cesser ?
Quand donc les peuples d'Europe sauront-ils être solidaires de nos frères grecs ?

Η μόνη ευρωπαϊκή πρωτεύουσα η οποία διαμαρτυρήθηκε, η Ρώμη καταδίκασε τις δηλώσεις της γερμανικής κυβέρνησης. Το Παρίσι σιωπά, όπως και οι άλλες ευρωπαϊκές πρωτεύουσες.
Η Γερμανική Κυβέρνηση απάντησε ότι ήταν έτοιμη να εξετάσει την αποδόμηση του Παρθενώνα και την μεταφορά και επανασυρμολόγησή του σε γερμανικό μουσείο. Το μνημείο, ένα αριστούργημα της ανθρωπότητας, θα διαφυλλασσόταν έτσι καλύτερα από το αν θα παρέμενε επί ελληνικού εδάφους.

Πότε λοιπόν ο Έλληνικός λαός θα ξεσηκωθεί και θα πει ΟΧΙ;
Πότε θα σταματήσει η γερμανική υπεροψία;
Πότε οι λαοί της Ευρώπης θα αποφασίσουν να είναι  αλληλέγγυοι με τους Έλληνες αδελφούς μας;
